Mission San Luis is said to be the only mission in Florida that has living descendants, which as you guessed are from the Apalachee Indian tribe.

It is the only Spanish mission that has been re-created and opened to the public. Upon visiting, you will be able to go back in time to the 17th century, and see how the inhabitants of this mission lived.

You will be able to stand inside and appreciate the construction of the Apalachee Council House, the largest known Indian building in the Southeast. There is also a military complex and a visitor center on the grounds.

Every year you can tour the mission and watch it come to life with people of all ages dressed clothing from the era, hands on exhibits, archaeological demonstrations and continued research. There is only a minimal fee for adults and children 6 and older.

Admission is free for children under 6, members, and active military. There is also availability to rent spaces for all different kinds of events. For more information and directions, visit their website at:  https://www.missionsanluis.org/
